Our Sisters in leadership from our six sectors around the world, and from our headquarters in London, are meeting in General Assembly from October 22 - November 12 in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania. During this annual meeting, they will discuss issues important to the various aspects of our mission of healing around the world. We ask your prayers for the success of this important gathering. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . World Food Day, which marks the founding of the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is October 16. This year's theme is: "Biodiversity for Food Security." "Conserving and using biodiversity sustainably is key to feeding the around 800 million malnourished people in developing countries," says the FAO. "Recognizing, safeguarding, and using the potential and diversity of nature is critical for food security and sustainable agriculture." A number of Medical Mission Sisters are actively involved in food security activities. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In Khandwa, India, our Sisters have begun regular meditation sessions in a jail housing about 300 prisoners. The response has been positive, and the authorities are cooperative. Our Sisters are grateful for the chance to share their faith experiences, and to try to bring healing to the prisoners. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sunday, October 24, is both World Mission Sunday and United Nations Day (the 59th anniversary of the founding of the UN). Our Sisters have consultative status with the UN through ECOSOC, the Economic and Social Council. This council coordinates the UN's work in economic, social, cultural, educational, health and related fields.
