The Mendipathar Multipurpose Cooperative Society, started with the help of our Sisters in Northeast India, empowers the poor in many ways: by providing fair prices for farm produce; by discussion and self-help groups; and by participating with non-government organizations (NGOs). The Cooperative has good bargaining power, and has helped to keep the price of rubber stable. Many government and NGO officials have visited the Cooperative, along with people from neighboring states who want to learn how it works.
