Indian Sister Vijaya Puthusseril has completed 15 years of service at the Regional Cancer Center in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, India. "Through sheer grace I was instrumental in setting up and standardizing the nursing department in tune with current trends," she says of her role as nursing superintendent. "Providing quality patient care, and inculcating ethical principles and value education into nursing practice, was a never-ending effort." In addition to training 300 nurses in cancer care, she has been involved in a number of committees at the national level, and has served as a resource to many. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A recent article in the Palm Beach Post, "Community gardens need more green thumbs," highlighted the efforts of Sister Lorraine Ryan at the Boynton Beach, Florida, Community Gardens. Many vegetables are grown in the gardens. Sister Lorraine is hoping to involve children from two local elementary schools in this work, enabling them to learn a bit about agriculture and also serve the community. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Concerned about the plight of vulnerable migrant children making the dangerous trek to the US alone, and about victims of human trafficking, a delegation of Catholic bishops traveled to the US-Mexico border at the end of October. They visited with migrants, government officials, and local community and church groups.
