Sisters Anne Louise Von Hoene and Mary Zosso enjoyed attending the 2006 annual conference of the U.S. Catholic Mission Association at Notre Dame University. This year's theme was, "Celebrating & Integrating Our Mission Perspectives: Short Term, Long Term, on Whose Terms?" Robert Schreiter of the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago gave the keynote address, and a 4-person panel spoke from personal experience of different aspects of short and medium term mission. Bishop Carmody from Corpus Christi, Texas, concluded by sharing his experience of receiving priests and sisters from other countries. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The people of Panackachira, Kerala, India, are particularly grateful this year for the watershed project initiated by Medical Mission Sisters. While there was an acute shortage of water in the neighboring villages, the residents of Panackachira had rainwater, collected in Ferro-cement tanks in their yard. With one or two rains, their wells were recharged. "It was a joy to see this progressive outcome," our Sisters say. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . At the First Annual Awards Dinner of the Jubilee USA Network, Sister Kay Heidkamp was specially recognized for her tireless efforts on behalf of canceling the unjust and odious debt of so many poor nations.
