In North East India, Japanese Sister Yumiko Nobue recently made a vocation promotion trip to Shillong, the capital of Meghalaya. She met with groups of young women, as well as with the Archbishop, local priests and Sisters. “They were amazed to see me, Japanese and in a sari, and they intently listened to what I said,” Sister Yumiko shares. She was impressed by the beauty of the area, the excellent English of the teenagers, and the hospitality of her fellow Religious. She will be following up with interested young women, and will also be involved in a vocation promotion camp in Garo Hills. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sister Maria Hornung’s new book, “Encountering Other Faiths,” has been published by Paulist Press. This unique book helps to develop skills in the practice of interreligious discourse, and gives practical guidance on how to encourage interreligious dialogue. In our growing pluralistic world, it addresses the challenges of crossing over into other worlds of thinking and association. The cost is $14.95, and it is available at: www.paulistpress.com . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . During the month of November, Medical Mission Sisters are remembering all of our members who passed away this year, including two of our beloved “elders.” Sister Martha Paulus, our oldest living Sister at age 100, went home to God in April. An American nurse-midwife, she served in a number of administrative and leadership positions in Pakistan, and was also in mission in California, Florida, and Pennsylvania. Sister Monica Neuhaus, our first Sister from Germany, passed away in June at age 98. She was a pioneering leader for our Community in England, America, and Italy, and was very close to our Foundress, Mother Anna Dengel. May these two wonderful women, and all our dear departed Sisters, rest in peace. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
