Sunday, May 8th, is the 39th annual World Communications Day. The theme is, "The Communication Media: At the Service of Understanding Among Peoples." Archbishop John P. Foley, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, said, "The theme, chosen by the late Pope John Paul II, reflects his desire that the media contribute to an authentic dialogue and mutual comprehension among peoples, leading to understanding, to justice, and to an enduring peace." Sister Dagmar Plum recently moved from Amsterdam back to her native Germany. She immediately started an involvement with the organization Solwodi (Solidarity with Women in Distress) in Koblenz, where she is helping women to make a new life. Solwodi began 20 years ago in Mombasa, Kenya, when its founder, Sister Lea, began working with prostitutes in the red-light district to develop alternative ways of making a living.
