On April 25, 2004, in London, Sister Carmelita Perez, our new Society Coordinator, and Sister Suzanne Maschek, our new Assistant Society Coordinator, assumed their duties. We pray for Sisters Carmelita and Suzanne as they begin their 6-year terms in service to Medical Mission Sisters worldwide. We also thank those who have served us so well since 1998: Sister Elizabeth Koonthanam, former Society Coordinator, and Sister Gertrud Dederichs, former Assistant Society Coordinator. May their transition time to new ministries be filled with joy. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 18 Medical Mission Sisters and Associates attended an Interfaith Prayer Service on April 22 in Washington, D.C., on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The themes were: Cry of the Earth: Will the World Bank Listen? Cry of the Poor: Will the IMF Respond? Testimony from people of Africa, Asia, and Latin America was included. Our Sister Julie Valiaveetil spoke about the World Bank's involvement in the building of the Narmada Dam in India. Statements were read from Sister Susi Wardhani about the re-colonization of India by the IMF, and from Sister Nympha Que about debt and trade in Malawi. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sister-Doctor Antonia (Toni) Redito is the new Administrator of Attat Hospital in Ethiopia. She took over from Sister Judith Vellukunnel, who has served in Attat for 8 years, including 3 years as Administrator. Our Sisters in Ethiopia held a festive gathering to bid farewell to Sister Judith, who is repatriating to South India to work in one of our hospitals there. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The American Ambassador to Ghana, Mary Carlin Yates, recently visited our Sisters in Berekum. She thanked Medical Mission Sisters for coming to work in the rural areas of Ghana, and for providing health care to the people there. We have been in mission in this West African nation since 1948.
