Sister Elaine Kohls, General Manager of St. Luke's Catholic Hospital and College of Nursing in Wolisso, Ethiopia, reports that, "The hospital is now full to overflowing…all 138 beds are occupied, as are the extra stretchers in the spaces in between." The number of eye surgeries has increased, since there is now a full-time ophthalmologist on staff. An ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) unit is being set up, and there are plans for a dental unit in the future. Sister Elaine adds, "The physiotherapy department is very much in use, as we have a regular stream of orthopedic surgeons coming from Italy." The College of Nursing has graduated 85 clinical nurses, and is also upgrading 99 health assistants from Oromia State to the clinical nurse level.

Medical Mission Sisters are sponsoring a live-in "Come and See/Mini Retreat" in Philadelphia from April 13th to 16th (Holy Thursday to Easter). There will be time for input, sharing, praying, and reflecting, as well as participating in meaningful liturgies. This is an opportunity to see what our charism of being a healing presence is all about. For more information, please contact Sister Marguerite Papineau.

Our Sisters in Indonesia have been offering a vocation promotion program once a month for 6 months. "The program was offered for recollection, for interested women who want to know Medical Mission Sisters, and to prepare themselves to respond to God's call," they explain. Most of the interested women came from Jakarta. "This past year, we were also asked to join in a religion program on the radio," our Sisters add. "Through this program, listeners can feel God's healing presence."
