Our Sisters in Phulgaon, India, have opened a new health clinic in Tulapur. They began by conducting holistic health seminars, holding basic health training programs, and preparing herbal remedies. Sister Yumiko Nobue trained the community health workers in giving body massage, acupressure and foot reflexology. Many patients have been helped through these therapies. Sister Rosalia Medeira says, "For me this is a 'dream come true,' for now we can share the luxury of drugless therapies with our rural women who come to us and who were used to only swallowing tablets and receiving injections." . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sister Dagmar Plum is involved with SOLWODI (Solidarity with Women in Distress), which is operating a hotline in Germany through the end of July. Several hundred women forced to work as prostitutes during the World Cup games have called the hotline, which is staffed by 20 multilingual Sisters from various religious congregations. SOLWODI runs 10 counseling centers and 7 safe houses across Germany, and is also active in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sister Miriam Therese Winter's book eucharist with a small "e" was awarded Third Place in the category of "Liturgy" in the Catholic Press Association's Annual Book Awards at the organization's May meeting. The award description reads: "A lovely little book written for a broad audience promoting a truly sacramental vision of life in all its 'realness.' The stories and reflections connect the liturgy to daily life and raise up the challenges of living intentionally as the disciples of Christ." . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ugandan Sister Speciosa Babikinamu, our first African Medical Mission Sister, serves as a hospital chaplain at Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda. She visits and prays with the sick, and takes the Eucharist to Catholic patients. She also visits HIV/AIDS patients in their homes, encourages families to make wills, and is active in the Legion of Mary.
