Sister Philo Morris was selected as an Active Participant in the Informal Hearings of the U.N. General Assembly with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Civil Society Organizations, and the Private Sector, held in New York on June 23rd and 24th. The Hearings were an opportunity for input on Secretary General Koffi Annan's proposals for a summit in September that will discuss progress to date on the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). Sister Philo participated in the discussions on the 8th MDG: Developing a Global Partnership for Development, and Financing for Development. Over 1000 nominations were submitted, and Sister Philo, who is Chair of the NGO Working Group on Financing for Development, was one of 250 experts chosen.

Sister Margaret McKenna received an award for New Jerusalem Laura from the Philadelphia Mayor's Drug and Alcohol Executive Commission on June 1, 2005, at its "Making a Difference Recognition Dinner." "What characterizes their program is its lively non-denominational spirituality, its spirit of service, nonviolent peace, and joy in community life," said the Commission. Sister Margaret accepted the award "in the name of all the members of New Jerusalem, past and present." Eight is the operative number at the "Make Poverty History" rally around the G-8 meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, on July 2nd. Six of our Sisters are attending. This event culminates with the "Live 8" concerts around the world. Our hope is that these 8 hours change the minds of the 8 men at the meeting, resulting in a positive impact on 800 million lives. In the Philippines, Sisters Teresita Camomot and Ester Vite have begun a new mission in San Fernando, Bukidnon. They look forward to the arrival of two candidates, Linda Maog and Jane Caspillo, who will join them this summer.
