Two of our Sisters in Peru have recently been active with mission volunteer programs. Sister Marisol Martinez helped to form a group of university students who are organizing and planning mission experiences for the Catholic University of Santa Maria’s volunteer group. The volunteers minister in poor villages near Arequipa, and in areas as far away as the northern jungles of Peru. Sister Christianne Gadiot served as co-leader for a group of 17 junior professed religious, who volunteered for a 2-week mission in 5 remote villages in the Province of Ayacucho, in the Andes mountains. Both Sisters and their groups found these mission experiences to be deeply rewarding. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Our Sisters in North America are hosting a “Come and See” weekend in Philadelphia for interested women, from September 28 to September 30. It will include sharing, input on our history and mission, religious life, and community. There will be time for reflection, questions, relaxing, and sharing in liturgy and vespers as we celebrate the 82nd anniversary of our founding. Sisters Christine Kivungu and Francine Poondikulam attended the Oikocredit Annual General Meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, from June 12 – 17. Sisters Margaret McKenna and Goretti Poovathunkal, and other members of the New Jerusalem Community with whom they live in Philadelphia, participated in the first U.S. Social Forum in Atlanta, Georgia, from June 27 – July 1. They attended presentations, workshops, and an interfaith service. As Sister Goretti shares, “We are reaching out to our sisters and brothers around the world to help build a cooperative world of peace, justice, equality, solidarity, and self-determination.”
