The People's World Water Forum is taking place in New Delhi, India, from January 11-14, 2004. Based on the shared belief that water is life, and that access to it is a fundamental right of all, this group is coming together to discuss creative responses to issues that arise when corporations and/or institutions try to control a resource that should be available for all. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 24 Medical Mission Sisters are attending The World Social Forum 2004 in Mumbai, India, from January 16-21, 2004. This group is committed to building a society centered on the human person, and opposed to domination by any form of imperialism. Some of the Sisters attending are also participating in the People's Health Assembly meeting in Mumbai on the 14th and 15th of January. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . News from Indonesia: Sisters Maria Agustine Miyatun and Catharina Sukartinah are active in Panti Wredha, a new home for the elderly in Solo. "We are grateful that we are entrusted to be pioneers in this involvement," they said. "It is good news for the elderly, who need friends in the process of aging, attention, and love ... they need to be accompanied, to be heard, to be respected, to be helped, and to be served." In Semarang, Sister Agatha Titi Prawati has a new involvement with street children. "I feel touched and moved by this ministry because these street children are human, too, and they need to be loved and cared about ...I would like to work for their dignity and their rights as children; and, no less important, to bring them back to their families and society." . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . A small delegation of religious and laypersons, under the auspices of Maryknoll and the Medical Mission Sisters' Alliance for Justice, are visiting Caracas and Barquisimeto, Venezuela from January 14-22, 2004. Sister Janet Gottschalk is part of the delegation, along with others from Maryknoll, Pax Christi, the School of Americas Watch, the Washington Office on Latin America, and Sojourners magazine. Three Medical Mission Sisters in Venezuela will meet with the group at various times during the visit. The delegation is also going to visit government, church, labor, and community leaders, in order to learn more about the current political and economic conditions in the country.
