In Antipolo City, the Philippines, Sisters Eufrecina Briones and Victorina de la Paz have formed a team with two laypersons in their parish, Immaculate Conception, for ministry with older persons. The team planned and implemented an Advent recollection program, and will do the same for Lent. In addition, a group of older persons from the Antipolo Geriatric Center, now in its fourth year, continues to meet for prayer and sharing.

Early in January, four of our Sisters attended a peace rally in Philadelphia remembering the 3,000 U.S. service men and women who have been killed in Iraq. The names of the 140-some dead from Pennsylvania were read out, as were a like number of Iraqi dead. After each name, the single word, "Dead," was pronounced and a bell was rung. It was a well-attended, solemn service, with people of different ages and lifestyles making a public statement of their grief for those killed, a plea for the end of the war, and prayers for peace.

Sisters Carol Huss and Mary Kirkhoff recently attended a prayer service and memorial dedication in Douglas, Arizona, for those who have died trying to cross the border into the U.S. Eight young people lost their lives in this area in 1997, trying to cross during a flash flood along the town's border wall.
