Sister Susi Wardhani attended the National Meeting of Youth from the dioceses and archdioceses in Indonesia, which was held in Cibubur, Jakarta, in November. 143 young people participated. Sister Susi is a staff member of the Youth Committee, one of the committees in the Bishop's Conference. The theme of the meeting was "Road of Change." . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sister-Doctor Mary Kirkhoff received an award from the University of Arizona, Cochise County Cooperative Extension, for her work with the Douglas Special Action Group on Border Health Issues. 30% of the school children in Douglas, Arizona, were overweight; 13% were considered obese. Sister Mary helped to improve nutrition and remove unhealthy food choices from the schools in Douglas. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . To celebrate the 30th year of Oikocredit, a symposium for Microfinance clients was held in December in Quezon City, the Philippines. About 300 participants attended. Through Oikocredit, money is leant to marginalized persons, so they can start their own small business as a means of earning a living. Sister Anne Bellosillo explains, "In all these, the God who cares is their source of strength, and calls for a celebration of thanksgiving and praise." . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In Cochin, India, our Sisters have been working with the Claritian seminarians, and with the Capuchins of Aluva, to educate people about HIV/AIDS. The 2 groups together have acted out a street drama in nearly 90 places to raise awareness.
