Our Sisters in mission in Pakistan recently made a pilgrimage to Rawalpindi, Pakistan, to commemorate the 80th anniversary of our service in that nation. The group visited historic sites where pioneering Medical Mission Sisters worked, as well as the cemetery where some are buried. Rawalpindi was our very first mission as a Community, begun on November 9, 1926. In Faisalabad, a special liturgy of thanksgiving was held. Sister Sylvia Strahler shares, “With gratitude we remembered the Sisters who have been in mission here, and the lay people who have supported us both in Pakistan and in other countries, and without whose help the work could not continue.” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Our Alliance for Justice is one of the sponsors of a Christian Peace Witness for Iraq to be held on March 16, 2007, in Washington, D.C., and other communities across the U.S. This Christian witness against the war in Iraq will culminate in an evening ecumenical worship service at the Washington National Cathedral, a candlelight procession to the White House, and a late night peace vigil. Please join us in congratulations and prayer for Sister Magdalena Keil, who will make her Final Vows as a Medical Mission Sister in March. Sister Magdalena works as an addiction counselor in a multi-ethnic neighborhood in Berlin. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In the Philippines, Sisters Naty Cristobal and Lynn Kaum have begun a new ministry in Capulaan, Villasis, Pangasinan, where a generous donor has provided a piece of land. The Sisters are developing an ecological haven with organic farming, wildlife conservation, solar energy, water recycling, and zero-waste management. Their dream is to create a spiritual and ecological environment of peace, quiet, and solitude.
