Sister Philo Morris, who represents Medical Mission Sisters at the United Nations, attended a wonderful farewell celebration for Kofi and Nane Annan on November 29 at the Church Center in New York. It was an invitation-only event, with 98 non-government organizations (NGOs) and others representing the much larger community of organized civil society. "The Secretary-General did not want a lot of parties, thus this was quite special," says Sister Philo. "It was indeed a joyful occasion, and an honor for us to have been present."

Two years after the devastating tsunami in Southeast Asia, we thank Medical Mission Sisters Theyamma Kuthivalachel and Alicia Vadakel, and Sister Josina, Daughter of Mercy, for giving so generously of themselves in our tsunami relief and rehabilitation program at Colachel, Tamil Nadu. We completed the first phase of rehabilitation when we distributed 96 fiber boats with engines to families affected by the disaster. We are now in the next phase, which involves follow-up on the education of needy young men and women of the area. Sister-Doctor Elizabeth Vadakekara, our Sector Coordinator in Asia, is monitoring the follow-up.

In Bagulin, La Union, Philippines, the first Diocesan Indigenous Peoples' Sunday was celebrated this fall. Different tribal groups from various parishes attended. Several Medical Mission Sisters worked with young people to make Bagulin herbal preparations for coughs and warming stones for body pain. Two highlights of the day were the ecumenical service and presentations by the indigenous people on their cultural rites and rituals.
