Sisters Janet Gottschalk, Teresita Hinnegan, and Jean Mouch are speaking at the American Public Health Association meeting in Philadelphia December 10th - 14th. Sister Teresita's presentation is on "Public Health Ramifications of Human Trafficking." Sister Janet's topic is: "Women's Ongoing Struggles at the U.N. against the Forces of Conservatism." Sister-Doctor Jean Mouch is speaking twice, on "Primary Health Care: Practice and Principles from 1978-2005," and "People's Health Movement: Grassroots Advocates for Developing Primary Health Care Practice and Policy."

Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) is a non-government organization working in Africa with Malawian Churches Action for Relief and Development. Sister Gertrude Chipungu is the project officer in Lilongwe. GAIA assists communities in identifying projects specific to their needs. These grassroots, village-level projects educate high-risk groups about the disease; modify sexual behavior; promote voluntary counseling and testing for HIV; foster the social and economic empowerment of women; care for AIDS orphans; provide home-based care of ill persons; improve nutrition; and reverse the stigmatization of people with AIDS.

In Barquisimeto, Venezuela, Sister Maria Salema provides health education in an area where there is an absence of basic public services, such as a sewer system. Sister Maria enjoys helping diabetic patients to prepare their own healthful, delicious meals. She is also involved with local Basic Christian Communities.
