Sister-Doctor Myrt Keller is featured in an article in the Summer, 2004, issue of "Occasional Papers" of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR). The issue is focused on the call to be peacemakers. Below is a brief excerpt from Sister Myrt's article, which is entitled, "Being Peace in Today's Climate of Fear." "For 17 years, I was privileged to live and work in several countries of Africa. During most of those years, the countries where I lived were engaged in civil war and/or war with neighboring countries. The 'war' environment creates a dis-ease infecting everyone, whether as a national or as an expatriate … today, in the country of my birth, this same dis-ease is epidemic." "How am I a 'healing presence' in this infected environment? Being a community leader, as well as a community member and a responsible citizen, in today's climate of 'fear' in the U.S. requires, first of all, ministering to myself. I attempt to create a 'war-free' zone within myself … I foster this peace-full center so it can flow outward to others." . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . On August 1, Sister Julia D'Cunha became the new Administrator of Kurji Holy Family Hospital in Bihar, India, succeeding Sister Joan Matheikal. "We are deeply grateful to Sister Joan for her selfless and dedicated service," say the Sisters of District North India. "She will always be remembered, as she touched the lives of many through her person-oriented approach." . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sister Margaret Lupiya is involved in the Rural Widows' Project in Lilongwe, Malawi, Africa. 52 groups of widows meet in 3 areas of Lilongwe. Training for transformation skills, income-generating activities, and small business management are some of their accomplishments this year. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . In Cavite, Philippines, Sister Anne Bellosillo has started her new mission. She is in charge of education programs at the Center for Ecozoic Living and Learning. Begun by the Columban Missionaries, the Center aims to awaken people to a new vision of protecting and enhancing life on Earth, with implications for spirituality.
