Sunday, April 22nd, is the 37th celebration of Earth Day. This year’s theme is, “A Call for Action on Climate Change.” In every nation in which we are in mission, Medical Mission Sisters are now more conscious of the ecological dimension of health and healing, and more aware of the impact of our choices and decisions on the well-being of the community of life. For more information, please visit: www.earthday.net . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Memorial services will be held for Sister-Doctor Eileen Niedfield (previously known as Sister Frederic) on Tuesday, April 24th, at our North American Headquarters in Philadelphia. A graduate of Georgetown Medical School, Sister Eileen served for 33 years in India at our Holy Family Hospitals in Mandar and Patna, and for two years at a government hospital in Bhutan. After returning to the U.S., she was a staff physician at the Veterans Clinic in Mission Valley, CA, and a volunteer for those with AIDS and those who were homeless. May she rest in peace. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Please join us in congratulations and prayers for Kenyan Sister Christine Kivungi and German Sister Magdalena Keil, both of whom recently made Final Vows as Medical Mission Sisters. Sister Christine is active in our new mission in Ang'iya Parish in the Homa Bay Diocese in Kenya. Sister Magdalena serves as an addiction counselor in a multi-ethnic neighborhood in Berlin, Germany. May God bless them both with many rewarding and fruitful years in mission. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sister Sue Sopczynski, a native of Chicago, Illinois, has been appointed our General Treasurer for a six-year term beginning in 2008. She has served as our District East Africa Treasurer for the past three years. Sister Sue is taking a class at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya, in preparation for her new responsibilities, and will move to our international headquarters in London next year.
