Several of our Sisters are participating in the Economic Way of the Cross in Washington, D.C., from noon to 3:30 on the afternoon of April 9th (Good Friday). This event is sponsored by the Religious Working Group on the World Bank and International Monetary Fund, which states: "Millions of people live and die in debt and in dire poverty. We touch, we feel, we live the pain of these many excluded ones. Because we are a global church, we hear their cries and we are compelled to respond." "We pray at each station for the restoration of our broken relationships," they explain. "To the institutions that control economic power - often staffed by dedicated and well-intentioned individuals - we come in prayer to name our common guilt, to ask in public for pardon, to call for repentance and transformation, and to proclaim Jubilee." Sister Margaret McKenna reports from New Jerusalem Laura in Philadelphia that, in the month of March, 4 recovering addicts in the program celebrated their anniversaries of becoming clean. "It was a great joy to see the families sharing in the anniversaries," she says. It focuses on many issues related to health care in the U.S. Nearly 44 million individuals in the U.S. have no health insurance, while many others are underinsured.
