11 North American Jubilarians Our 11 North American Jubilarians represent 650 Medical Mission Sisters in 19 nations trying to be present to those in need in the spirit of Jesus the healer. On August 15th, 4 of our North American Sisters celebrated the 60th anniversary of their First Profession of Vows, and 7 Sisters celebrated their 50th anniversaries. Together, these Sisters represent 332 years of mission in North America, and 258 years of service overseas. Please join us in congratulations, prayers, and thanks. A special Mass and reception was held at our North American headquarters in Philadelphia in recognition of these Sisters' service: 60-year Jubilarians: Sister Marie Frey, from Pittsburgh, PA, lived and worked in England, Pakistan, the Philippines, and the U.S. After serving as an accountant/bookkeeper, nurse, and chaplain, she is now retired in Orange, CA. Sister Eva LaBombard, a nurse-midwife from Lebanon, New Hampshire, has been in mission in India, Pakistan, the U.S., and Venezuela. She currently lives in Aston, PA. Sister Juliana Matyi, from Lorain, Ohio, ministered as a nurse and midwife in India, Pakistan, and the U.S. Today she lives in Orange, CA. 50-year Jubilarians: Sister Patricia Goottee, from Loogootee, Indiana, has been in mission in Latin America for over 40 years, and in Peru since 1973. She lives and works in Arequipa, Peru, where she began a health clinic and helped to found our Anna Dengel Center. Sister Rose Kershbaumer, Ph.D., from Hazleton, PA, has ministered and taught in Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, the Congo, and the U.S. She retired from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing in 2003.
Sister Winnifred Pearsall, from Bay City, Michigan, served as a lab technician in Ghana, Pakistan, and the U.S, and for years recorded books for the blind. She lives in Huntingdon Valley, PA.
Sister Rosemary Sampon, a nurse from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, has been in mission in Bolivia, Cambodia, Peru, the U.S., Venezuela, and most recently Mexico. She now lives in McNeal, Arizona. Sister Rosemary Smyth, from Woodside, New York, lives and works in Kampala, Uganda. She has been in mission in Ghana, Nigeria, and the U.S., as a nurse-midwife, primary care coordinator, and pastoral minister. Sister Anne Louise Von Hoene, from Rutherford, New Jersey, has held administrative positions in England, Ghana, and the U.S. She works for the U.S. Catholic Mission Association in Washington, D.C., and is a board member of the Africa Faith & Justice Network.
