Prayer ministry Praying for those in need, and for each other, is one of hundreds of ways in which Medical Mission Sisters around the world try to be a healing presence to others today. At our headquarters in North America, our Sisters marked the end of 2008, as they mark the end of each year, with an afternoon of prayer and reflection in our Chapel. This beautiful service included Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for 3 hours, followed by communal prayer and sharing. Then they began the New Year, as they do every year, with morning Mass celebrating the Feast of the Solemnity of Mary. Medical Mission Sisters who live at our Philadelphia headquarters feel very blessed to be able to gather each morning in our Chapel for Liturgy or a prayer service. In the late afternoon, many come together for evening prayer. The liturgical seasons and feast days are celebrated in special ways…and the intentions written in a book just outside our Chapel are especially remembered each day.
As our Constitution notes, “Prayer is integral to our life and a constant source of vitality. Gathering to share the word of God and to celebrate the Eucharist is intrinsic to prayer. As individuals we seek our own rhythm of prayer to deepen our communion with God. As a community our spirit is embodied and expressed in the liturgies we celebrate and in the rituals with which we mark significant moments in our life.” Our Sisters who live in other parts of North America and the world also hold in daily prayer the many needs of humankind and of our home, the Earth. Many are involved with healing prayer, pastoral ministry, days of recollection, and Bible study, meditation, and parish prayer groups. All especially hold our benefactors in grateful prayer.
