Healing Presence at our
North American Headquarters

Offering an oasis of peace and healing in a bustling city is one of hundreds of ways in which Medical Mission Sisters try to be a healing presence to those in need today.

Our headquarters at 8400 Pine Road in the Fox Chase section of Philadelphia is home to a number of retired Sisters, and a place of rest and renewal for Sisters returning from mission countries around the world. Many of our Sisters also have ministries at our headquarters, making it a place of refuge and healing for the public as well.

Three Peace Hermitages on the property - small, simple cottages located in a wooded grove - offer people of all faiths an opportunity for quiet reflection. Guests bring their own food and linens, make a small donation, and stay for as long as they wish. About 2000 people have found refreshment and renewal through a stay at one of the hermitages. For those interested in holistic health, the Center for Human Integration (CHI), now celebrating its 25th anniversary, offers a wide variety of programs and services. A dozen staff members and 40 instructors teach and practice therapeutic touch, acupressure, reflexology, reiki, therapeutic massage, and more. 700 persons attend CHI workshops and classes annually. Beautiful items can be found in the Center's gift shop. A Wellness Event and Craft Festival will be held at CHI on Saturday, October 7, from 8:30 - 3:30.

Also on our property is a Thrift Shop, which is open from September through June, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Bargains abound, and proceeds benefit our healing mission.

For those who find healing in creative expression, a Contemplative Arts Program includes courses in Chinese brush painting with silent sitting meditation, and in tai chi movement meditation. The exquisite floral paintings of Sister Mary Gavin, who teaches these classes, have been printed on note cards that are available for purchase.

Our Administration Building houses a lovely Chapel, where we celebrate weekday and Sunday liturgies. The building is also used for retreats by churches, organizations, and women in recovery. Right outside our Chapel door is a labyrinth for those finding peace in its use.
