Membership Promotion

Inviting women to consider membership in the Medical Mission Sisters is one of hundreds of ways in which we try to be a healing presence today.

Sister Marguerite Papineau, our Membership Promotion Coordinator in North America, is a self-described "people person." She enjoys her frequent contact with Catholic women who feel they may have a vocation and want to learn more about Medical Mission Sisters.

Through e-mail, phone calls, and letters, Sister Marguerite corresponds with women from North America who are interested in learning more about our Community. The women may have seen our name on the Internet or in a Catholic magazine, or heard one of our Sisters at a parish talk. Sister Marguerite also works with Catholic Campus Ministry Associations in the U.S. and Canada, to "spread the word" to college students.

After answering a woman's initial inquiry, Sister Marguerite sends out literature that explains more about the Medical Mission Sisters. If a woman's level of interest is high, she may choose to participate in a "Come and See" weekend at our North American headquarters in Philadelphia. One of these weekends is scheduled for April, 2006.

Many of the women in touch with Sister Marguerite have already had one or two careers. Some felt "the call" years ago, and are exploring it later in their lives. Sister Marguerite understands this very well. A member of the Daughters of Charity for many years before joining the Medical Mission Sisters, she has been a teacher, nurse, chaplain, and holistic health practitioner, in addition to her current ministry.

As we celebrate the World Day for Consecrated Life on Sunday, February 5th, we pray with Sister Marguerite, "May the Lord of the harvest send us vocations!"
