League of Gratitude

Inviting friends in the Philippines’ to join our League of Gratitude is one of hundreds of ways in which Medical Mission Sisters around the world try to be a healing presence to those in need today.

In 1960, our Sisters in the Philippines began to share their mission with relatives and friends, inviting them to be partners through a group named the League of Gratitude. As Sister Erlinda Banzon explains, “We invited them to be part of this League so together we could give praise and thanks to God for all the blessings we received and are still receiving.”

“We had special celebrations on our Foundation Days where we became closer to so many people, and they became our partners in mission,” says Sister Erlinda. “They believed in our cause, and wished to share in some way, so they contributed any amount they wished to give. Many, many of them continued to be in touch, and to ask for prayers for special intentions.”

Over the years, a number of Sisters helped to keep the League going. Sister Leonora Minoza is most active in the League now, keeping in touch with the members and making items with them that are sold to help our mission.

“My involvements in the League of Gratitude, Bible sharing groups and Church ministries not only enable me to retain my lifelong friends, but also to acquire new ones,” Sister Leonora shares. “They are a source of great joy, and a big support to me in many ways. Friends serve as bridges to Christ, for through them I see his face more and more.”

Sister Erlinda adds, “God cannot be outdone in generosity, as we are aware. Many people know or realize that they are blessed in so many ways, blessings that at times they are not fully aware of. They are so grateful when they discover that indeed all that they are and have are blessings from God. This feeling of gratitude moves them to share themselves and whatever resources they have with others. The spark that Mother Dengel kindled has caught fire here, and together with our friends we continue to bring healing and move towards wholeness.”

“Our friends who share our vision are very supportive, and this is one of the reasons why we are able to continue the mission that we have. As a ministry, it is grounded in prayer and undertaken with gratitude.”
