Celebrating 730 years in mission

The 14 Medical Mission Sisters from North America who are celebrating Diamond and Golden Jubilees in 2006 represent a combined 730 years in mission.

On June 11th, we are honoring 14 Medical Mission Sisters from North America who mark 60-and 50-year anniversaries of their First Profession of Vows in 2006. Please join us in congratulations, prayers, and thanks. A Mass and reception is being held at our North American headquarters in Philadelphia in recognition of these Sisters' service:

60-year Jubilarians:

Sister-Doctor Katherine Jobson, from Louisville, Kentucky, served in Bangladesh, India, Ghana, Malawi, Pakistan, and New Mexico. She held several leadership positions in our Community, and was a consultant to the Christian Medical Commission of the World Council of Churches in Geneva. She now lives in San Diego.

Sister Boniface Lischwe, from Brinktown, Missouri, ministered with our Sisters in Philadelphia and St. Louis, and with handicapped children and pregnant women in crisis in Northern California. She is retired in Orange, CA.

Sister Mary Zosso, from Chillicothe, Missouri, held a variety of administrative positions in Pakistan, England, and especially Ghana. She also served as secretary to our founder, Mother Anna Dengel, in Philadelphia and Rome. Today she is in mission in Bethesda, MD.

50-year Jubilarians:

Sister Justine Church, born in St. Louis, served in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Ghana, Tanzania, Rwanda, London and Chicago. She is currently the treasurer of the Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice in San Diego, and liaison for our North America Justice Co-Mission.

Sister Barbara Collings, from Oakland, California, has been in mission in Bangladesh, Pakistan, Uganda, and San Diego. She is currently a health advisor for our Sisters, a Eucharistic minister, and a surgical liaison at Grossmont Hospital in La Mesa, CA.

Sister Joan Coughlin, a native of Union City, NJ, served in Ghana, Nigeria, England, Ethiopia, and St. Louis. She currently lives in Philadelphia, where she manages a hospitality house that welcomes and provides for our Sisters on furlough and renewal.

Sister Estelle Demers, born in Saskatchewan, Canada, has been in formation and leadership positions in North America, and was part of a special community-based health care project in Canada. She has a strong interest in eco-spirituality, and works in this area, in liturgy, and in program design and facilitation in Philadelphia.

Sister Clarita Hackman, from Glasgow, Missouri, served in Venezuela, Ghana, Kenya, and Philadelphia. For the past 10 years, she has been assistant to the General Treasurer of the Medical Mission Sisters in Philadelphia.

Sister Alice Hanks, a nurse and nurse-educator born in Scranton, PA, was in mission in Ghana, South Africa, Philadelphia, San Diego, and La Mesa, CA. Today she is retired in Philadelphia.

Sister Kathleen Monahan, from New York, NY, worked in Ghana, Nigeria, Philadelphia, and Rome. For the past 20 years, she has been involved in several health services to the destitute and disabled in the Bronx.

Sister Cathy Ouellette, from Long Island, NY, was in mission in Venezuela, Jordan, and Rome. For the past 26 years she has been in mission among the women of Arequipa, Peru, where she will celebrate her jubilee.

Sister Jane Pellowski, from Winona, MN, served in Atlanta and Philadelphia. She has been the liturgy and chapel coordinator at our North American headquarters for the past 25 years.

Sister Jean Schulties, a native of Newark, NJ, was in mission in Uganda, Kenya, Rome, London, and Philadelphia. She currently works in our Development Center in Philadelphia, and also accompanies women recovering from addiction.

Sister Patricia Tunnicliff, from St. Louis, served in Venezuela, Jordan, Pakistan, Philadelphia, St. Louis, and Tucson, AZ. She is active with Catholic Community Services and with the St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank in Tucson.
